Academics
NBCA Elementary classes provides a traditional education while attempting to challenge students for an ever-changing society. The curriculum outlined for NBCA builds on the basic skills such as reading and math while incorporating English, spelling, science, history, handwriting, and health. The curriculum is enhanced through critical thinking activities and hands-on projects. Phonics-based reading instruction is given from kindergarten through second grade while hands-on learning projects and practice drills enhance math instruction. NBCA additionally enhances our curriculum with weekly electives.
Phonics, Reading, and Writing
K5-2nd grade students will learn the sounds of the alphabet, as well as special sounds, with phonics charts. Children will be placed in reading groups based on ability to maximize their reading skills. 3rd-5th grade will focus on language and grammar.Students will continue to develop reading abilities with class reading. Students will practice writing in cursive.
Mathematics
Students will learn many different math concepts, based on grade and building on previously learned concepts, including number recognition, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, place value, telling time, measures, fractions, geometry, and pre-algebra.
Bible
Students will learn Bible truths and memorize scripture daily. Once a week, the children will have chapel.
Science
Through textbooks, discussions, and activities that focus on the wisdom and creativity of God, children will be introduced to scientific processes and skills.
Social Studies
Students will learn about historical people, places, and events through discussion, activities, timelines, and maps.
Electives
Music, choir, Spanish, and library are offered on a weekly basis.
Character
Character training is an important focus of Christian education. Every teaching method, attitude, and action is used as a means of developing character.
